Packaging
Systems That Get Products To Market On Time
iKTV manufacture
a futuristic karaoke player designed for the teen market. It plays
sing-along versions of pop hits and comes in a range of bright colors.
iKTV commissioned Manmade to develop a packaging system for the
video discs that accompany the player.
The iKTV player had been released with great success in several
Asian territories, but it was felt that the packaging should be
updated for an American audience. With the player due for its US
launch in under two weeks it would be necessary to create a package
design that was not only appropriate and compelling, but that could
be quickly produced by iKTV’s in-house art department.
IDENTITY REFINEMENT
Our first step was to update the company’s existing logo to
create a more versatile logo that would withstand a wide variety
of applications. The existing identity lock-up contained the tagline
and several layers of decoration. These were removed to create a
more modern, simplified mark that retained the essence of the iKTV
identity.
PACKAGING DESIGN
To facilitate swift turnaround in production a template-driven layout
was designed which could be applied to the collection with only
minor changes to each package. A technique for processing stock
images was developed to create a cohesive feel across the entire
collection, while the use of bold colors and the emphasis on volume
number aid in differentiating between the sixty individual discs.
RESULTS
We completed the project in only five days, enabling iKTV to meet
their pressing US launch date. The player was picked up for distribution
by Target and Wal-Mart and has been featured in numerous teen publications.
Shortly after the launch iKTV commissioned Manmade to produce a
second packaging system for their Club iKTV series of video discs.
“Manmade do beautiful
work. Their approach to every aspect of the project was very
thorough. We look forward to working with their team on future
projects.”
